This review is from: 50 Fast Digital Camera Techniques (50 Fast Techniques Series) (Paperback) This book addressed many unanswered questions I had on my Prosumer "Canon PowerShot G3 (see study). What benefit is the histogram, for example? Now I do not know what it is, but how to use it for an exhibition - that alone worth the price of admission reasonable. I learned to lock the exposure, focus lock, exposure (and flash) bracketing, why the results with the flash disappointing in May, why sports require quick action amateur photos (SRL) camera, the advantages and disadvantages of red - eye to prevent pre-flash, and dozens of other tips and features that the camera's instruction manual describes in detail, but leaves you to find the why and how and when to use sound. As disappointed by some readers, this is not a book to point-and-shoot photographers and / or cameras [you'll be better served by one of the "Dummy" books]. It is designed for the most richly endowed with many cameras with choice of functions, some of these mysterious. The title certainly below not make this difference clear. But I found the content very useful to capture the potential of the device (although I could not distinguish black and white original and edited vignettes that begin each section). The enclosed CD has full-sized color photos that you can change in graphics software, and a "slide-show 'that shows each color in the illustration of the book (even compressed Web page size) . Also on the CD is an Acrobat version of the whole book [ie, you can view but not print individual pages - Printing using, you can copy a page in the clipboard, paste it into Word, then print the page]. Overall: a superb guide to familiarize the reader with the intricacies of the buttons, dials and menus of a digital camera complex. Other books might better serve snapshot photographers.

An excellent book - much more than its title!
From the title “50 Fast … Techniques” I’d simply hoped for a collage of tips to quickly apply to different photo taking situations. Surprise!

This review is from: 50 Fast Digital Camera Techniques (50 Fast Techniques Series) (Paperback) I bought this book to take a trip with me, with my new digital camera, for quick reference and thorough - I wanted learn as soon as possible to bring my camera to the best use as soon as possible. I read the first few chapters in chronological order for the most part, then jumped into my curiosity and experience dictated. I found the contents of the book very useful to get a basic understanding of the techniques that I could then practice and daily use of my shooting. Each technique is short enough to be able to read and digest quickly enough yet, but robust enough to give you much to use. My pages are dog-eared and underlined at this point - a sign of a book made good use - and a few weeks later, I know that much remains to be obtained from it.

Useful Information
This book was very useful when I first started using a digital camera. I was fairly new to photography and had very little knowledge of the subject.

Useful for beginners and pro’s alike.
I have been using digital cameras for the past five years and film for the 30 years before that.
I found this book to be very informative and up-to-date.

This review is from: 50 Fast Digital Camera Techniques (50 Fast Techniques Series) (Paperback) As an experienced user 35mm switchover, I found this book to be the perfect complement to my camera's instruction manual. Clearly and directly, it addresses a large number of situations to take photography and choice of accessories, from simple to complex. Each of the 50 techniques in a concise and very well illustrated in a logical progression of most sections ranging from 3 to 10 pages each. The table of contents and an index and wonderful to find what you want as simple as possible. The CD-ROM and associated website is a nice bonus. My only wish is that many of the illustrations in color, but the price would have been too much to expect. In general, most highly recommended for beginners and advanced users.
