Why the price jump?
I bought this camera as a christmas gift and my cousin loves it. I guess I should have bought myself one hack then as well. Back then, it was only $109-119.

My wife and I recently upgraded from our Sony DSC-P8 to a Sony DSC-W130. So far, we are very happy. We shopped around a bit before settling on the new Cybershot, and spent much time trying other brands. In the end, the Smile Shutter took us back to Sony. It seems that there is no way it would work, but really. We have two young children who are very difficult to catch a smile. With the new Sony, all we have to do is turn on the smile shutter and the camera does the rest. So far we have not lost the smile with the 3 years (with teeth) and took a bit of 4 months (no teeth). It makes a difference.
The other aspect which has been great so far is the burst mode. With my old camera, the missing time between shot a lot of blur. The new device comes to focus each shot much better. We played with some moving targets, and the pictures came out great. A major drawback of burst mode, however, is that you can not use flash. I took lots of photos of the interior and the quality is ok but not great. The flash just turns off when you change the burst mode.
The video is great on this device. Obviously not camcorder quality or anything, but very good for what you'd expect from a point and shoot. The sound quality is not great, but much much better from my old unit. It appears that the sales, he audio in seconds. If the first few seconds are strong, the whole video will be smoother. If you start mild, however, you bury the needle when it is Lounder leads to distortion. You can not zoom in video mode - something they do not tell you.
The flash recharges after about 1-2 seconds, which is great. It is also very effective over long distances.
I like the menu, especially now that I had a little time to play with them.
The picture quality is great, but I'm upgrading from a 2MP camera, it probably would not take much to wow me. We took a ton of shots and were impressed by the level of detail when we zoomed in on our computer.
Overall, we are very pleased with this device. It has some limitations and problems, but for the money (and to be a point and draw), it is great.

Just bought this new from a local retailer. Done a lot of research online to compare this model to some of the compact cameras from Canon. I am not a photography buff, I wanted something that was small and not necessarily the "best" but still pretty images. I really like the features it includes. The 4x zoom is greater than most at this price point, and even some more expensive cameras. He seems to have a lot of features, like the Smart Zoom (digital zoom without pixelation), multiple auto focus points, and the ability to shoot video of 640×480. Face detection is very cool and seems to work very well. I thought about how the DSC-W130 with its 8MP resolution and editing functions, but believes that 8MP was more than I needed and I prefer to do my photo editing on the computer.
One or two bugs I am aware of:
1. If you shoot using burst mode, you'll find that you can not turn back the flash in any mode but Easy mode. You must reset the unit to the factory run again using the flash. Even knowing that, I would still buy the camera, but I hope enough people warning of this error Sony released a firmware update to correct it. Otherwise, I gave it five stars.
2. When you connect the camera with the USB cable and turn on the lens opens and then close, so be sure not to let the face before the data transfer.
3. This camera (unlike some) does not receive power through the USB cable, it must have a battery charge indicator in order to transfer photos. Do not leave it too long when it is plugged in or it will drain the battery.

Blurry Pictures
We spent tons of time to replace our old Sony digital camera, which we bought in 2001. Our old Sony was one of the first 3MP digital camera. It took great pictures.

This is almost perfect for me. Of course, I want quality and control of an SLR in a small package, but for something this portable, it did an excellent job. The description of the screen, the settings are just fantastic, the ISO (low light) mode must be seen to be believed. . . very low noise, even without flash. The images are mostly strong, but without flash you still have to maintain a steady hand, as with any camera. Very balanced and realistic color. It is a very intuitive camera that lets you focus on your membership and not worry too much about exposure, which I think is what a small point and should give you benefit. I also love the 16×9 modes fixed, have not made a video with it. I recommend obtaining a protective paste on the screen, as I did. . . seems very scratchable otherwise. If I lost I probably get the same device again. I'm pretty conservative with my comments, I am sure many people would it be a impudent 5 stars, and I almost did, but you still have the opportunity surprise when you pull something that should have been well but not for any reason. . . . I think that is where technology is at right now, but this camera rocks, no doubt.

Satisfied with camera
As much as I’d like to be a talented photographer, I have collected cameras that are too much work to learn how to use and require more expertise than I’m willing to invest.
